ABSTRACT:
Kelsey’s presentation will draw on lessons from the wildfires in British Columbia to explore the many scales of wildfire in the earth system. She will also discuss how different perspectives of wildfire influence preparedness and reaction to wildfire.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Kelsey Copes-Gerbitz is a Ph.D. candidate and Public Scholar from the Faculty of Forestry at UBC, co-supervised by Dr. Lori Daniels in the Tree-Ring Lab and Dr. Shannon Hagerman in the Social-Ecological Systems Research Group. Her research centers on exploring multiple perspectives of wildfire in BC through a collaboration with the T’exelc (Williams Lake Band), community forest managers, archaeologists and governance experts.
