ABSTRACT: Climate change is causing significant impacts across Canada, with warming temperatures and changing precipitation contributing to more extreme events such as floods, wildfires, and heatwaves; as well as changing seasonal patterns, sea level rise, and melting permafrost. These changes are causing widespread effects across the foundations of life in Canada – threatening homes and communities, health and livelihoods, cultures, and the natural environment. This seminar will explore the Government of Canada’s policy approach to preparing for and adapting to climate change through the development of a National Adaptation Strategy.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Michelle is from Surrey, BC. She holds two degrees from UBC – a B.Sc in Applied Biology, Food & the Environment (2013) and a Master of Land and Water Systems (2015). She now lives in Ottawa where she works as a policy analyst with the federal government. She has worked at the department of Environment and Climate Change Canada and Pacific Economic Development Canada (PacifiCan), on topics that include nature-based solutions for climate change, developing Canada’s first National Adaptation Strategy, Indigenous climate leadership and Indigenous economic inclusion, and community disaster recovery.
ALL ARE WELCOME!
