Why did you apply for the Master of Land and Water Systems?

I am interested in furthering my education in design thinking and environmental studies to the applied sciences in land and water systems. As a current Park Ranger with BC Parks, I am very interested in resource management and how we can adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change. Coming from an arts background, I think that this is a great program option to advance my science knowledge, while also drawing important connections to my previous education. I look forward to making new academic and professional connections, as well as creating a community at UBC!

What are you most excited about learning in the MLWS program?

I am excited to apply my design-thinking background to a science-driven program to broaden my knowledge and deepen my understanding of land and water systems. I am interested in making connections between the different systems and how they interact together, as well as looking at these science disciplines through different lenses to allow for holistic thinking. I have a personal interest in the impact of climate change on the cryosphere and hope to deepen this area of study in the project component of the program.

What are some of your favourite hobbies?

If I’m not on a pair of skis, you can find me climbing, running or on a bike! Having been born and raised in BC, I enjoy anything to do with being outside. I also enjoy travelling, painting, writing and photography.
