Why did you apply for the Master of Land and Water Systems?

Growing up on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau with magnificent places around me, my love of nature and desire to create a beautiful environment inspired me to become a landscape architect. In my 14 years of professional study and practice, I have to deal with the conflict between urban development and the conservation of natural resources, how to balance them is an issue that has always concerned me. That’s why I am actively involved in various nature restoration projects. These experiences made me realize that restoring the original ecological functions of water and soil is the basis of all remediation strategies. Moreover, managing land and water as an integrated system within a broader framework is the foundation for sustainable development in the face of urban expansion.

What are you most excited about learning in the MLWS program?

I aspire to work in environmental restoration and landscape management in the future, collaborating with a diverse coalition of experts and land managers who specialize in various fields, such as forestry, agriculture, and conservation. I have worked with professionals from different fields, which has given me insight into how different disciplines think and approach problems. As a result, I look forward to benefiting multiple parties and bringing multi-dimensional thinking to future environmental issues and sustainable development. I firmly believe that the interdisciplinary courses and the unique faculty with diverse scientific and managerial backgrounds at the Faculty of Land and Food Systems can provide me with guidance and support, I will be able to approach soil and water systems issues with critical approaches and credible scientific analysis, while also facilitating the integration of my academic disciplinary experience into a more holistic framework.
