Why did you apply for the Master of Land and Water Systems?
My intention in applying to the Master of Land and Water Systems (MLWS) program is to deepen my knowledge in urban forestry through an integrated approach to land and water management. I am drawn to the systems-based methodology and the program’s emphasis on science-based skills. Academically, I am particularly interested in the role of perennial and woody vegetation in ecosystems, the complexities of anthropogenic and disturbed urban soils, the interactions between governance structures and natural systems, the design of both centralized and decentralized water infrastructures, as well as indigenous land management practices. Working in small-scale agriculture, I had the opportunity to experience the dedication and community inherent to agricultural life. Which has fostered a strong connection to nature and inspired my desire to continue learning.
What are you most excited about learning in the MLWS program?
I am eager to learn about watersheds and soils in the context of urbanization, governance and climate-adpatation and mitigation.
What are some of your favourite hobbies?
In my spare time, I love spending time outside, moving my body, reading and spending time with friends and family!
