Why did you apply for the Master of Land and Water Systems?
I applied for the Master of Land and Water Systems in pursuit of a career related to land and water resources conservation and management. I have graduated with both bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Cape Town. Throughout my engineering studies, I found out that I am more passionate about environmental sustainability and water resource management.
Although my experiences in civil engineering provided me a variety of science-based skills, I still strongly believe that my career path aligns more closely with the environmental sciences and future related consulting work. Being admitted by MLWS from UBC can not only enhance my knowledge about resources conservation and management, but it can also provide me with an opportunity to be exposed to different groups and audiences from other parts of the world. Canada has always been my dream country, and I feel it is an honour for me to be able to study my favourite topic in one of my favourite countries.
What are you most excited about learning in the MLWS program?
I am very excited to meet and share ideas with other students who are also interested in solving the emerging land and water issues. I am also excited to be able to learn from different lecturers about various aspects of the natural resources and environmental sciences and equip me with the necessary knowledge, science-based skills, and communication skills. I really hope that I can develop the necessary skills to succeed in my future career after completing this course.
What are some of your favourite hobbies?
I love travelling, and I love to experience different cultures and people while I am travelling. I have spent more than 12 years in Africa (4 years in Namibia and 8 years in South Africa), I have witnessed the disparity between the rich and the poor. I really hope I can contribute something to help underprivileged people in a way to make their lives more sustainable and livable. My hobbies also including playing piano, hiking, doing DIY stuff, and I also love playing with my cat- Mochi. 🙂
