Why did you apply for the Master of Land and Water Systems?
I applied for MLWS to get an overview of environmental sciences, so I can hopefully change my career to environmental advocacy. My interest in the environment stemmed from travelling and interacting with a variety of folks that interact with the environment. Although my career so far is in Environmental Engineering, I felt the need to develop a stronger foundation as my background was in Geological Engineering. MLWS seemed like a good fit to bridge some of the knowledge gaps between where I’ve been and where I want to be.
What are you most excited about learning in the MLWS program?
I am most excited about learning the multitude of connections that exist between humans and the way they interact with their environment. I am most excited to learn about how land and water systems can be managed, particularly with a systems approach, to address the current environmental crises.
What are some of your favourite hobbies?
I enjoy a bunch of activities, including board games, concerts, music festivals, movies, hiking, and picnics! I am usually a “yes” man for any activity.
My most memorable experiences come from travelling; I left pieces of my soul in the Himalayas, the Andes, and the Southern Alps. I spent a year hiking, volunteering, camping, and interacting with locals.
